Why it's hard to book

Everyone wants Acadia. The math doesn't work in your favor.

Acadia is the only major national park in the Northeast — no substitute within a day's drive for the tens of millions of people between Boston and New York. When you want a coastal Maine camping trip in summer, there is simply no plan B that comes close.

Blackwoods holds just 281 sites. On the 1st of each month at 10 am EST, 90% of sites for the next six months go live on Recreation.gov at once, and the best dates are gone by 10:01. The remaining 10% release on a rolling 14-day window, keeping the competition constant all season long.

What works is catching a cancellation — any hour, any day. CampWatch monitors Recreation.gov continuously and emails you before anyone else even refreshes the page.
